Okuma GPW/GAW series

The cylindrical grinding machines of the GPW/GAW series are among the most successful machines for the production of medium-sized components for automobiles, motorbikes and hydraulic components. They are the result of OKUMA’s long-standing experience in these sectors and are leading manufacturers worldwide.

The particular ease of use allows the machine to reach high levels of productivity even without skilled operators.

The machine structure, with a single body for the bed and table, provides high rigidity. A perfect balance of the machine has been achieved through careful design. The newly developed spindle is equipped with high-pressure hydrodynamic bearings that guarantee a maximum rotation error of 0.02 µm and a rigidity of 100 kg/µm, enabling high stock removal rates. The hydrodynamic bearings have no contact with the shaft and are therefore not subject to deterioration.

The grinding wheel head slides on V-shaped and flat guides coated with anti-friction material to ensure accurate positioning and linear movement with a low friction coefficient.

The feed of the wheel-holder head is directly controlled by AC servo-motors via high-precision recirculating ball screws; a resolution of 0.0001 mm allows very high sensitivity in programming the machining operations.

The workpiece holding head (max. speed 650 rpm) is directly driven by an AC servo-motor; the lifetime lubrication of the spindle bearings provides high reliability and reduces maintenance to a minimum.

Various safety devices are installed on the machine to protect the operator from mechanical and electrical accidents.
